Valjevo – the beautiful Gradac canyon

On July 22nd, Cookie and I visited a beautiful river near the city of Valjevo in Western Serbia. The nature there was amazing. We parked the car at the Ćelije monastery and went down to the river.

The water is shallow in most places so you can easily walk in the river. Or so I thought. I almost lost one slipper (well, I did lose it, however some fishermen downstream caught it and brought it back to me). The water was c o l d! Seriously, my bones hurt, but later on and after many trips into the river, I got used to it.

As for Cookie – he had a blast! He swam, he fetched the ball (until we lost it, it went downstream really fast), searched for rocks and retrieved sticks. We also had a lovely walk by the river. It was peaceful and beautiful and it’s definitely a place that we will visit again someday.

Ruma – Borkovac and Pavlovci Lake

One item on our checklist down!

On Sunday, June 24th, we decided to go visit the lake of Borkovac, and since the lake in Pavlovci is nearby (5 minute drive) we visited them both.

Both lakes are located near the town of Ruma, in the Srem region. It’s a 50 minute drive from Belgrade.

We went to Pavlovci first, since it’s a bit farther and it was convenient to visit Borkovac on our way back to Belgrade.

The lake is vast and the shore isn’t too steep, so my older dog was able to get in and out easily. Fishing is forbidden at the lake, however there was a handful of fishermen at the time we arrived.

Also, there is a nice trail along the shore of the lake. We walked a bit on it, but I didn’t want Cookie to get too tired as we had one more lake to visit later.

The Borkovac lake was our next stop. The lake itself wasn’t too amazing in my opinion, the access was difficult (dam with stairs and pretty slippery) and the lake smelled a bit. However the nature and the lake itself were beautiful and we had an amazing view of the Fruška Gora mountain in the distance. On our way to the lake we passed through a beautiful forest-park and walked near a canal.

The lake and the forest were surrounded by beautiful fields of sunflowers.
